I'm at the Post tonight, where technology is both a blessing and a curse. The Web is slowly killing the business model of the paper, but at the same time the Web is quite a useful tool. Just tonight I received a contributed picture that had no identification. All I knew was the names of the three guys in the pic, and the fact that they went to a certain high school. The high school Web site helped me identify one of them, but I was stuck on the other two. In a moment of clarity, I searched Facebook for the two names, was able to match one, and therefore finished ID'ing the guys. Occasionally I don't feel dumb; this is one of those times.

In other news, my apartment (or at least Casey and Amanda's room) is infested with bees. Two people have been stung while in their bedroom. Oddly, we have no problems in our room as of yet, but maintenance has been called. Blech.

I am broke and I've been working what seems like a million hours a week. Life fucking sucks sometimes.

But it really hasn't been all that bad. Chris and I are doing well, I've had oodles of fun at all this stuff that's going on. Somehow I'm going to afford a trip to Mass. in two weeks, which should be good.

The second GLANCE fundraiser was great (thanks to all who came!). Gotham the past couple of visits has yielded many funny stories (the lesbians trying to hook me and Stevie up, the creepy guy who was climbing all over Stevie, the guy who was trying to solicit me for blowjobs back in November looking even *worse* in real life than his pictures, if that was even possible).

I'm working at the Sprint Hamden store starting Thursday. Right around the corner - huzzah! I also rebounded nicely in Trumbull this month and should have a good commission check to look forward to at the end of June. (Hamden should also pay me more, but I'm still looking into that.)

My grandmother went in for another round of bypass surgery, but made it through with no complications and is recovering well.

Saw Megan and Zack, Stevie, Paul and Dan, Katie, Liz, Casey & Amanda, Adam, and shitloads of other people the past couple of weeks - my social calendar's been full (and hence the brokeness).

Unfortunately I'm a little moody right now because I had one page to do at the Post, got it done, and then vandals had to start a stupid fire leaving me here waiting for almost two hours to replace a story on my page. Fuckers.

But it's done, so I'm getting it proofed and shipping it out. Thank God.

Well, the site's very bland, but I haven't gotten to it yet.

But the first seed of Uri and my latest collaboration efforts is now available.

IMOff allows you to send a message to a user who's currently offline, and it will be delivered to them via AOL Instant Messenger when they sign on. It's a very interesting idea, and one I think many will find useful.

You can check it out, download, and test here: http://www.imoffline.com

The software's in beta, since we've given the tires a pretty good kick but it was a limited round of testing, but both of us would be very interested to know what you think.

Following this project up will be a site I've had on the back burner for ages. Some of you may remember a posting from 2004 about this - well, we're starting prep work for it to be coded right this time, and launch later this winter.

Like most people my age, I don't really watch the nightly news religiously. But I liked Peter Jennings. This is really a shame.

Why are weekends so awesome and weekdays so shitty?

My comp is finally up and running. I was able to find an hour to do all this shit over a three day period.

The Mirror has been practically redesigned from the ground up - that's what I get for asking to change one or two things... it just snowballs. Looks good though.

Tomorrow: journal due, four page paper due. Neither finished. That's what getting up a bit earlier is for.

I just have to trudge through to 4:30. Then I hear someone's going to pay a visit :) Jamie DeLoma also might stop by (he's the Chronicle EIC) to see the redesign.

This weekend: CMC/New York. Can't wait.

A normal entry will pop-up tonight or tomorrow, but for the moment, just a note that the College Buzz has officially launched...

Check it out!

And please spread it around... for it to be a success, it needs submissions from people as far as what everyone's talking about, as well as people reading it, for it to take off!

You may notice this entry is not Friends Only.

I'm thinking of de-classifying old entries that simply don't have the need to be Friends Only. It seems semi-pointless to have this LJ totally Friends Only all the time. Yes, there are certain things that I'll leave Friends Only, but for awhile I maintained a public journal, and some of the reasons for going FOLJ have now passed.

At minimum, my old public entries on the old ThoughtStream will be moved over here in the next couple of weeks. After that, I'll figure out how I'm going to do this going forward... more entries may be made public, both past and present.

I welcome your input on the idea, of course, as those of you reading this on the outside may be wondering what kind of party's been going on in here. I also know the resistance for non-LJers to register just to read peoples' journals; I was one of them for a long time. And those of you on the inside will no doubt agree there are some entries that simply don't warrant being classified as friends-only.

My friends list has doubled the past couple of weeks. Networking is a good thing. But maybe you want in too? Just leave a comment or "friend me" first.

I'm so hypocritical. A couple of months ago I shunned the idea of a FOLJ. Now I'm one of them. LOL

OK - this is the first, and likely only, time there will be a triple blog update with the same entry (there will be more on the "real" blogs, and maybe hidden away in the FO area of LJ - I'm getting tired though). Especially since the old blog goes away any day now.

Anyhoo...

I love to do occasional random Google searches for people I know. Once I uncovered that our Campus Life editor had died in 1912 as an 84-year-old woman. Very amusing.

But, I came across a friend's LiveJournal. Cera (with a C - there's some sort of song to it as well, if I remember) and I had met at the horribly-long-named National Youth Leadership Forum on Law which was held down in DC. It was a fun little excursion, and we chatted a lot on the trip. The online chatting that followed was sporadic, but cool.

But I hadn't heard from her in quite a long time. I tried IMing her once, but got no response. I'd simply assumed she'd forgotten about me.

Fast forward to 2003:

One of my New Year's resolutions was to connect with people I had lost touch with. Generally, I'm usually two years behind in my resolutions - I've just completed the 2002 resolutions lol But, since I finally was convinced to register for an LJ despite having what feels like 80 million other sources for Josh blogdom, I decided to add to my friends list a few people to get the ball rolling - Megan, Zack, Kaity and Cera. I added Cera randomly (and also because she went Friends Only), but apparently she caught my little sneaky addition less than 24 hours after I added it. She remembered me. Cool.

Why does this matter? One of the biggest problems I've had is keeping in touch with people. Some great friends have just sort of vanished into mid-air, and I have no idea how to reach them or what's going on with them. Like my friend Melodie, who I would hang out with a lot in high school, but since college I haven't heard from her once. A couple of my friends I've seen randomly at the mall once or whatever, but as a general rule I haven't heard from anyone in high school short of those who go to Fairfield. Friendship is important to me, and I was an idiot with protecting those friendships from the high school years. Anything that helps me reverse my mistake, even a little, makes me feel a bit better and less asshole-y.
